Attendance Innovation: Clark County School District

When more than a third of students were chronically absent in 2022–23, Clark County School District (CCSD) took bold action. Through the “Every Day Matters” initiative, the district created a coordinated, community-wide approach to attendance—and the results are showing.

Here’s what CCSD is doing differently:

📊 1. Centralized Leadership & Real-Time Data
CCSD created an Office of Chronic Absenteeism to streamline efforts and ensure district-wide coordination. Schools now use real-time data dashboards to spot trends and intervene earlier, and the district facilitates trainings to support school based teams.

🏠 2. Expanded Home Visits & Tiered Supports
District attendance officers conducted over 6,000 proactive home visits. A clear tiered intervention system ensures students receive support before problems escalate.

🛍️ 3. Community Buy-In Through Business Partnerships
The district distributed “Every Day Matters” decals to businesses near the schools and is beginning outreach to employers—like casinos—where many parents work. These partnerships help reinforce attendance messaging across the community, and encourage nearby businesses to help get students to school.

💬 4. Personalized Communication & Mentorship
Schools implemented mentorship programs and family communication campaigns that are proactive, not punitive. Students know they’re seen—and that someone at school cares.

📉 The result?
Chronic absenteeism dropped from 36% to 27.7% in under two years.
